Field guides often have the Subject subheading/subcategory of “identification” which can be combined with a subject term you are interested in such as “fish*” or "aquacult*".
An excellent field guide series for California is published by the University of California Press and called the “California Natural History Guides” series.

Replacing UCD Library Catalog on July 27, 2021, the new UC Library Search includes all of the UC library collections. This setting is specifically for the UC Davis libraries including (for the first time) the holdings of the Law Library. If you Sign in (on top right corner) using your UCD login and Kerberos passphrase, you are prompted with your loan period, can renew books online, and request items that have been checked out to another borrower, or are in storage. - International Field Guides databaseAuthor, Diane Schmidt. Database of field guides that were reviewed and assessed to create a listing of over 5,900 titles. Useful for field researchers who wish to determine if a published, portable guide exists which covers a geographic region and/or type of species, or natural history topic.
