About this Guide and the East Asian Languages Collection

This Guide presents online resources developed for research in East Asian Studies and Languages.  These resources are organized by language and then by type as appropriate.  Research in English on East Asian topics can also be conducted by using resources in the relevant subject guides (e.g. Art, History, Sociology).

The library also has an extensive, physical collection of materials in Chinese and Japanese, and to a lesser extent in Korean. Subject emphases of this collection are: history and languages of East Asia; fine arts, general works and reference materials.

Chronological emphases in history are: from the Qing dynasty to the Early Republic period of China and from the Meiji period to the post World War II period of Japan.

Chronological emphases in literature are: modern and contemporary China ahd the Heian and modern periods of Japan.
