Destroying & Disposing of Data
Knowing which data and records are safe to dispose of can be complicated to determine. Some funders mandate the length of time to retain research data. Check your funder’s guidelines for any instructions on how long investigators are expected to steward the data generated from the sponsored project. If there are not specific time periods mandated, or your project was not funded by a grant, follow the UC Records Retention Schedule and University of California Research Data Policy.
