Scholar Profiles and Identifiers

Link your Scopus Author ID

Linking your Scopus ID with ORCID will allow you to transfer publication details from Scopus into your ORCID record.

Option 1: Linking ORCID from Scopus Author ID

  • Go to Scopus Author search
  • Search by your name and university in the affiliation field
  • Select your name in the results list to open your profile page. NB: You won’t find a Scopus Author ID if you don’t have works already indexed by Scopus
  • If you do have a Scopus Author ID, select "Connect to ORCID" (located in "Profile Actions")
  • Follow the steps to associate your Scopus Author ID with your ORCID record

Option 2: Linking Scopus Author ID from ORCID

  • Login to your ORCID record
  • In the Works section, select "Add works" and then "Search & link"
  • Select Scopus Elsevier from the list and authorize
  • Follow the steps to associate your Scopus profile and works with ORCID

Import Citations from your Google Scholar Profile

If you have a populated Google Scholar Profile and would like to import your citations into ORCID, follow these steps:

  • Login to your Google Scholar account
  • Go to My Profile
    • This can be found under the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the web page
  • Select the box next to "TITLE" under your name to select all records (or select the relevant results that you'd like to export)
  • Select EXPORT at the top of the list
  • The BibTex file will open in your browser
  • Right-click on your browser window and Save As
    • If you do not see the option to Save As, copy the url into a different browser
    • Select the destination to save the file, such as your desktop
    • Save the file as .bib (not as .bib.txt)
  • Sign in to your ORCID record
    • Scroll to the Works Section and select the Add (plus) button on the right)
    • Select Add BibTex
    • Go to the location where you saved the .bib file and add it

This option has some limitations. Please see BibTex issues and troubleshooting

The Lens

Patents can be added manually to the works section of your ORCID record or can be identified and imported using The Lens. Linking your Lens profile to your ORCID record will auto-populate your Lens profile with data from ORCID. Lens data can in turn be pushed to ORCID to update your ORCID record. To identify and import patent data into ORCID using The Lens follow these steps:

  • Go to The Lens
  • Log in using your ORCID (requires an email verification step)
  • Search for your patents (e.g., specifying 'issued' and your name)
  • Click the little "V" button to expand the record shown, and scroll down to your name
  • Click your name and choose "Record Inventorship"

DimensionsWizard

External funding can either be added manually or be identified and imported using the DimensionsWizard under the funding tab in your ORCID profile. ORCID provides step-by-step directions about this process.

Add Trusted Parties to Your Account

Trusted individuals can be added to your ORCID account to act as delegates. These delegates can help you manage your ORCID record. Trusted individuals can edit information and make connections with external systems, but cannot edit email addresses, passwords, or delete your account.

The trusted individual does not have to be a researcher, but they must have an ORCID to act as a delegate. Anyone can register for an ORCID at: ORCID: Register

  • Log into your ORCID account
  • Click on your name (located on the top, right of the record page)
  • Select the Trusted parties option
  • Go to the Trusted individuals section
  • Enter the individual's name, email address, or ORCID in the Search box
  • Click the Search ORCID for trusted individuals button
  • Identify the correct person and click the Add as trusted individual icon
  • Click the Add as trusted individual button to confirm the action

The trusted individual will receive a notification in their ORCID inbox and by email if they have ORCID email notifications enabled. Additional help for delegates: How can I help someone update their record as a trusted individual?
