Undergraduate Research Center: The Research Process

Research Support

Below you will learn to determine who your librarian is, how to book an appointment, and what to expect during your one-on-one library research consultation.

Who is my librarian?

The librarians at UC Davis cover different subject areas within the broader scope of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering. Depending on what you are researching, connecting with a librarian focused on that subject area can be a great approach at finding relevant information.

How to book an appointment with a librarian

You can schedule an appointment with a librarian at Shields via the library website's Schedule a Research Consultation feature. Additionally, you can explore the Library Student Services directory to see what areas of interest the various librarians have, or look at the names of the librarians on the various Library Subject Guides. Lastly, there is a video that walks you through the scheduling steps, and benefits of doing so.

What to expect during a library research consultation

Librarians will often ask you to share your research topic in advance of the meeting. During the meeting, you will work together to find a range of resources that are relevant to your topic. Additional topics that may be covered include citation managers, that help you stay organized during the research process, or referrals to the DataLab.
