Introduction to Research Proposals

In this section, viewers will find library resources relevant to writing research proposals. Research proposals “in whatever context, [are] intended to convince others that you have a relevant and interesting topic to research that will provide (in some explicit way) useful results and a sensible idea of how to set about that research in a timely, economical way” (Denicolo & Becker, 2012, p. 2), similar to literature reviews, they are a specific genre of writing, and approaches vary depending on your discipline.

On this page, you will find various resources on writing research proposals. The books provide context on elements of research proposals such as your introduction, rationale, literature review, and methods section, to name a few. Additionally, you will find links to writing centers on campus for further writing support. Lastly, some resources containing examples of research proposals which may serve as templates for your own proposal crafting.

Writing Support

  • Academic Assistance and Tutoring Center offers some drop in writing support on the lower level of Shield Library, and also takes appointments. They offer a range of writing support including one-on-one consultations, workshops, and other resources.
  • The Writing Center is located in the Teaching and Learning Complex, on the fourth floor. They offer undergraduates (and others) a range of professional writing support via workshops, one-on-one consultations, and even writing courses
