Frequently maps are part of technical reports, particularly when spatial information is essential to the research found within a technical report. Many of these technical reports with maps may be called surveys such as geodesic surveys, soil surveys, topographic surveys etc. Major government agencies who produce these types of reports are: EPA, NOAA, USFS, and USGS.
