Cited Reference Searching: Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Getting Started

Cited Reference Searching uses the references cited by articles (and sometimes books) to identify publications that all share a common reference or source.

It has three common uses

  • to identify scholarly publications relevant to a research question through their use of known relevant sources
  • to quantify the impact of a specific scholar’s work
  • to quantify the impact of the research conducted at an institution.
