Disciplines supported for companion animal literature include: behavior; anatomy & physiology; breeding and genetics; ecology & conservation biology; growth & development; nutrition & feeding; reproduction; and taxonomy & systematics. Companion animal-related publications found in Shields Library are mainly located in three Library of Congress call number areas on the 3rd floor: QL – Zoology ; SF — Animal Agriculture (where the majority of companion animal resources are located) ; SH — Fisheries & Aquaculture. Many Animal Welfare titles may also be found on the 2nd floor Shields in the HV 4701 - HV 4711 areas. There are over 1,800 companion animal titles in the print/online collections.
Located on the lower level of Shields Library (next to the main staircase), the Fleetfield Gallery Dog Art Display features a rotating selection of displayed dog-themed art and books donated by the Sheila Grant Fleetfield Dog Museum and Library.
